Weighing a Load at the Scale¶
Purpose¶
It records a weighing in two steps — the vehicle arriving, and the vehicle leaving — and keeps the figures for both.
Who does this¶
Scale operators who weigh goods arriving and leaving.
Before you start¶
- You have the right account (see Permissions and Access).
- The record and date you are working on are correct.
- Words you do not know are in the Glossary.
Access¶
Operations > Scale Portal
The two steps¶
Every weighing is done in two stages, and which one comes first depends on the direction of the movement.
| Movement | First | Second | Then who takes over |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchase (arriving) | Weigh loaded | Weigh empty | Inbound team receives it |
| Doortrade (arriving) | Weigh loaded | Weigh empty | Inbound team |
| Sales (leaving) | Weigh empty | Weigh loaded | Outbound team |
| Export (leaving) | Weigh empty | Weigh loaded | Outbound team / booking |
If the order is backwards for the movement you are handling, stop. Weights entered the wrong way round make the net figure wrong, and the mistake is not obvious afterwards.
The figures¶
- Gross — the vehicle with everything on it
- Tare — the vehicle empty
- Net — the difference, which is what the goods weigh
The net figure is calculated for you. Read it and check it is sensible for the commodity.
How to weigh¶
- Open the scale portal and find the load.
- Check the load reference, commodity and direction before you enter anything.
- Enter the first weight and confirm it.
- Enter the second weight and confirm it.
- Reopen the ticket and check both weights, the net figure, and the times.
Correcting a mistake¶
If a weight was entered wrongly, the ticket can be corrected — but the original is kept.
- Open the ticket.
- Choose the correction.
- Enter the correct figure and a reason. The reason is required.
- Save, then reopen the ticket and check the correction is there.
The original entry stays on the ticket. Nothing is silently overwritten.
Cancelling a ticket¶
A ticket can be voided if it was raised in error. Voiding keeps the record and marks it as void — it does not delete it. Check the load is not already used elsewhere before you void it.
Important: what weighing does not finish¶
Weighing a vehicle in does not receive the goods. The weights are recorded, and the next team has to do their part.
A weighed-in vehicle is not received. A weighed-out vehicle is not packed, not delivered and not invoiced.
Printing the ticket does not mean the weighing is accepted either.
If something goes wrong¶
| Situation | What you do |
|---|---|
| The ticket is not in the list | Check the load reference and the direction. Reload before concluding it is missing. |
| The weights are the wrong way round | Void or correct the ticket with a reason, then enter them the right way round. |
| The net figure does not make sense | Reopen the ticket and check both weights before entering anything else. |
| A correction was refused | Check whether the ticket has already been completed by the next team. |
| You cannot find the load on the ticket | Do not weigh it against the wrong load. Ask first. |
| The save result is unclear | Reopen the ticket and read it before entering the weight again. |
Who owns the next step¶
Scale operators own the weights. The next team is the inbound team for arriving loads and the outbound team for leaving ones — see The working day, step by step.
